Should you include free gifts with sales

Should You Include a Free Gift with Poshmark Purchases

To gift or not to gift…Many Poshmark sellers wrestle with this very question. The concept of including a freebie with a Poshmark purchase is not a bad one. Customers like to feel special, they like to think that you are putting extra care into their overall shipment. And what better way to show this than with some free token of your thanks!

That said, there are those poshers who are dead set against offering anything free with the purchase of one of their items. There are a few reasons for being in the “no gift” category. Some argue that the money you might spend on such gifts eats away at your bottom line. Some cite a shortage of time from purchase to shipment as another reason for foregoing a gift. And still others reason that a gift really isn’t making that much of a difference as far as impact on future sales or even on ratings for that matter.

There are definitely two sides to the gift-giving argument when it comes to the Poshmark platform. That said, as a reseller, what is your position? Do you tend to include free gifts or do you stick strictly to shipping the items purchased?

Should You Include a Free Gift with Poshmark Purchases

Types of Poshmark Gifts You Could Include

If you are so inclined to give a gift as an expression of thanks to a buyer, then what are some of the best options of things you might include with the package? Survey Poshmark sellers and you are sure to get all kinds of answers to this particular question…

Lint Rollers

A lint roller is obviously a pretty good gift. Who hasn’t used one of these in a pinch? And as we are dealing largely with clothing items, after all, the gift makes perfect sense. On the flip side, lint rollers cost more than a few cents generally. So if you do go with this thank you gift, you might want to reserve it for more expensive purchases.

Free Makeup/Perfume Samples

These are great gifts if you are able to get your hands on them relatively easily. In other words, you don’t want to spend hours tracking down samples—remember, time is money. And you certainly don’t want to be paying a lot of money for such samples. If you have access to these, then great, go ahead and gift away. Otherwise, you may want to find something else to give your buyer.

Temporary Tattoos/Stickers

This is definitely a pretty fun and affordable gift to include with a purchase. Not to mention, they can be cute and whimsical and thereby memorable. Your free gift doesn’t have to be anything large or costly. In fact, it should not be large or costly. Even something small such as a sticker can show that you did think about putting a little extra TLC into the package.

Pens

This is a gift you definitely want to be careful about. Many Poshmark sellers, especially those who’ve begun to brand their business, will have pens and other types of branded merchandise made bearing their logo or company name. And this is certainly good for the brand. However, what happens if that pen you’re sending leaks all over the item the buyer purchased? Then you have a bit of a problem, to say the least. Maybe forego giving pens as a gift, you never know what might happen.

For that matter, evaluate any/all free gifts with an eye on the potential issues that could occur by way of ink leaking, something breaking open and staining the item, anything of that nature.

Thank You Card

This is perhaps one of the best things you can include with a purchase. While it’s not a free gift per se, it is simple, affordable and adds that personal touch to the package. In fact, even if you opt to include a free gift of some sort, you should also consider always adding a thank you card to the mix as well. Especially of the handwritten variety, a thank you card really does show the buyer that you took some extra time and put some heartfelt thought into packaging their item.

The age-old question of whether or not to include that free gift with purchase is probably one that is never going to be fully solved. You need to do what you think is best for your Poshmark business. Regardless of which side you take on this particular debate, you always want to make sure that you are packaging with care. It is all about the item purchased after all!
